February 2009 - Words
I have always loved words.
The way the are arranged on the paper.
The combination of vowels and consonants.
The way they translate what is in the mind to the reader.
Of course we are behind them, and we get to choose them, but they are alive unto themselves.
The way that, once they are written, they take on a life of their own.
The way they will stand across time, long after the one who has written them is gone.
I have always loved them.
In a way, really, they are my life.
The selection of the ‘correct’ word.
The way the word is bonded to the tone.
To the color.
To the intended emotional experience.
I’ve shared words with you my entire life.
Some of you read them, or hear them, and have reactions based on something they might have touched inside you.
It’s the commonality of the word that connects us all to the experience of being alive.
It’s so easy to think that, in our being alive, we are somehow unique and alone in our experiences, and yet the word, spoken, or written, or sung, connects us all to the tribe and reminds us that we are not alone.
We are all one.
We are all in this together.
The word reminds us of our family bond, and allows us to communicate across time, and distance, and cultures and beliefs.
I’ve always loved words.
It’s a glorious and loving paradise that continues to allow me to use them.
For those of you who relate to my words, thank you.
It’s only the reality of all of us that somehow gives them to me to share with you.
And therefore me.
And therefore us.
I really am you, and you really are me.
We do all belong.
To my brothers and sisters on this good and quiet evening in my life, let us continue to find the words.
Words set us free.
Much love to you all.
